TAB - Teaching for Artistic Behaviors

Wow!!! I'm exploring TAB - Teaching for Artistic Behaviors in the art room. Students are engaged and full of joy while experimenting Students make personal decisions for their art. I found a great poster on pinterest (of course :) that illustrated a great "how to" poster for students. It goes like this - First, get an idea! We talked about how artists are inspired. Second, select and gather materials. Third, set up a work space and CREATE! Fourth, engage and Persist on one artwork for 3 class periods. This one will be difficult. I predict we might have some students who really want to recycle! Last, revise / edit and SHARE! I started by opening the drawing area - I gave them a quick "how to" pick up materials and use appropriately. Next, I opened up the painting area and OH BOY did we have some paint drips on the floor when we were independently picking up our materials. Yes it is hard to carry watercolors like a lunch tray. Class after class I felt it was important to try picking up the materials so they experienced walking back to the counter themselves. This next week I'll be opening the Collage area. This time students will rotate around the room trying different ways to collage. I'm so happy to be giving students the opportunity to TRY - EXPERIMENT - CREATE!!
